I hope to create a window into their suffering more approachable than graphic photos. While for some viewing such photos catalyzes a transition to veganism, others feel overwhelmed and push them away. Paintings with some graphic elements but a more ethereal or dreamlike setting than a slaughterhouse may be more comfortable to let in and explore. With my art, I invite you to reflect on our relationship with animals in a deeper way.
I began drawing and painting as a young child and used to say I wanted to be an artist when I grew up. After a couple decades in between spent chasing other dreams, I have come home to what may be my true heart- painting, traveling, and speaking out for animals’ basic rights.
My heart is heavy with sorrow for all the animals who lose their lives for such trivialities as a middle school science class- that I don’t think anyone even enjoys. I remember cutting up a frog when I was a kid. My heart still breaks when I think about it.
